Preparing for the postpartum.

If you are cooking for a meal train of a loved one, or even doing some meal prep of your own you might be looking for some delicious and hearty recipes to sustain and nourish a new family.

If you are not sure what on earth a meal train is —-> suss it out here, this website is free and it allows a quick and easy way to coordinate meal drop off’s between friends, family & colleagues when someone is going through a big transition & would benefit from some additional support. Prime examples are upon the arrival of a new baby, the death of a loved one or the onset of illness.

If you are expecting a baby, or one of your loved ones is expecting a baby I strongly recommend you set up a meal train for them, it will be so helpful & SO appreciated. It takes 5mins to set up and can include information re: days/times for drop off, instructions for delivery, favourite meals of the family, allergies, things to avoid & also has a function where you can upload updates to keep those in the meal train in the loop with whats going on if the family wishes.

Below are a few of the recipes that I’ve used and love:

When you click on the title of each recipe it will take you to the relevant webpage.

Hearty Chicken & Vegetable Soup

I make a few swaps just as a personal pref: I use chicken breast instead of chicken legs, italian soup mix instead of dry soup mix & sweet potato instead of swede. I also throw it all in the slow cooker on high for 4hours and put the chicken breasts in whole. After the cooking time is completed I take the breasts out, shred them then add them back in to the soup & serve with sourdough.

Creamy Lentil Curry
I love this recipe so much - however I do tend to add additional veggies into it such as roasted sweet potato, green beans & spinach for some extra nutrients. If I’ve got the time I also love to make yogurt flat breads to go with it, SO GOOD.

Raw Caramel Slice
This slice contains lots of dates which are great for assisting with cervical ripening in the third trimester of pregnancy, so this delicious slice can be a good way to get in your quota. When making this slice I subbed the almonds for cashews & buckwheat grouts and the medjool dates for regular dates (what I had available). I also soak the dates for 5mins in boiling water before blending as I find this makes them blend smoother. I also used this peanut butter as I love that its packed with hemps seeds too.

Lactation Cookies
I fricken love these cookies, I would happily eat them all day long. I don’t change anything about this recipe, I love them as they are & the people I have made them for have loved them too.

Raspberry & Lemon Gut Gummies
This recipe is perfect consistency and the taste is spot on. Gut gummies are packed with gelatin to support gut health, I use the Nutra Organics gelatin because I really like the brand, you can use whichever you like. I pop the mixture into silicon molds that I purchased from K-mart so they are easy to get out once set.

I’ll continue to add to the list as it expands.
